## General overview: Reshaping the App Studio Model

For decades, the app-studio model has been dominated by a handful of companies controlling nearly all profits. In 2023, the global mobile gaming industry surpassed **$90 billion in annual revenue**, yet **Tencent alone accounts for roughly $25 billion** of that total—nearly **one-third of the market**. Other large studios like Voodoo, Supercell, and Zynga follow behind, each generating hundreds of millions dollars every year.

This concentration exists because the dominant studios have two overwhelming advantages: **development velocity and distribution.**

1. **Development velocity:** Large studios can afford to develop and test hundreds of titles every year, accepting that only a small fraction will succeed. Their size gives them infinite room for trial and error, something smaller studios simply can’t afford.
2. **Distribution:** With established app-store relationships, ad network dominance, and cross-promotional power, these companies can push any title to global visibility—regardless of creative quality.

The result is a stagnant ecosystem where success depends more on **budget and reach** than on **creativity or efficiency**.

Independent studios face high entry barriers, long production cycles, and limited access to users. Meanwhile, the profits generated by players’ time and attention stay locked in corporate hands.
